India - Japanese global freight forwarder Yusen Air & Sea Service (YAS) Co Ltd has strengthened its position in the Indian logistics business with a new warehouse in Bangalore and a distribution centre in Delhi.

YAS will be focusing on storage of electronic components imported from the Asian region and distribution centre services for within India. The new warehouse In Bangalore will bring just-in-time distribution using the company's trucks to the Bangalore area.

YAS said imports of auto-related products was booming in Bangalore while businesses from Japan had been strengthening their organisations there in anticipation of the future penetration of manufacturers.

The company also said, "The distribution front has seen an increase in the demand for inventory management service and distribution center functions, and in response, YAS (India) has opened a new warehouse, and taken its first steps into the logistics business."

Commenting on operations in Delhi, YAS said, "The outskirts of the southern part of the city were home to countless factories operated by companies involved with automobiles, motorcycles, machinery, chemicals, and consumer electronics. Because of factors such as the commencement of construction of a cargo transport road from Delhi to Mumbai, the area has seen a wave of cargo depot and industrial complex construction, and the advance of Japanese businesses into the area is accelerating.

In addition to servicing auto parts manufacturers and other companies desiring just-in-time distribution YAS are targeting other industries dealing with imports to expand their business.

YAS currently handles other developments in India such as the expansion and relocation of the group's Chennai branch and opening bases at Kolkata and Hyderabad. The logistics business has been singled out as a priority in the YAS five-star project beginning this year.
