BOEING K+N DB SCHENKER
Chinese carrier to buy Boeing aircraft
Xiamen Airlines, a privately-owned division of China Southern Airlines, has agreed to purchase 40 Boeing Next-Generation 737-800s to meet its growing passenger traffic in Asia Pacific and China. Valued at US$3.5 billion, the airline will work with Boeing to obtain approval of the purchase from the Chinese government. The carrier currently operates six 757s and 77 Next-Generation 737 planes from Boeing, and plans to grow its fleet to 200 by the end of 2020. Additionally, Singapore Airlines-owned SilkAir has also place an order for 31 737 MAX 8s and 23 Next-Generation 737-800s.
DB Schenker ropes in Hacis
Hong Kong Air Cargo Industry Services Limited (Hacis) has inked an agreement with transport and logistics company DB Schenker in Hong Kong. With the contract, Hacis will provide airport direct export services, managing its airfreight traffic from China and Hong Kong at Hong Kong International Airport. Additionally, it will handle approximately a third of DB Schenker's air cargo volume in Hong Kong.
K+N to handle Metro's sea logistics
Retail company Metro Group Buying Hong Kong has selected Kuehne+Nagel (K+N) to provide sea transport management services. The three-year contract will put the logistics firm responsible for the coordination and booking processes and other value-added services for Metro's seafreight shipments from countries including China, Brazil, Egypt, Israel and Bangladesh. In the same week, K+N also made plans to develop its Bavaria logistics centre into a major hub for BMW in Germany.
