Tiger trials cargo services
Singapore - Tiger Airways has commenced trials on cargo handling services between Singapore and five Southeast Asia cities as a way of increasing ancillary revenues.
The low-cost carrier operates a fleet of Airbus A320s, started offering cargo space on its aircraft for flights between Singapore and Bangkok, Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, Kuching and Penang on 15 January.
The cargo service could extend to more destinations, if the trials prove successful.
"The trials will help us observe and fine-tune our cargo operations, before a larger-scale implementation across our network," the company said in a press statement.
Tiger will be the second Southeast Asian budget airline to join the ranks of offering cargo-handling services after AirAsia's announcement last month.
Rosalynn Tay, managing director of Tiger Airways Singapore added, "It is part of our strategy to increase our aircraft capacity utilisation and route profitability without compromising safety, security and punctuality."
