DHL delivers SG’s 1st Asian Youth Games

Singapore - DHL has been appointed the official logistics provider for the city-state's first Asian Youth Games Singapore 2009.

DHL said its first shipment arrived on 21 May 2009 and other equipment and material have followed closely for games that will take place from 29 June to 7 July.

"DHL will offer end-to-end supply chain solutions that encompass air and ocean freight, customs clearance, management of a central warehouse, and domestic distribution of equipment to the Games venues," said Richard Owens, senior VP, Global Customer Solutions, DHL Asia Pacific.

"Transportation of equipment is underway and we expect to handle a multitude of material and sporting equipment from China, India, Poland and the U.S. to Singapore," said Sam Ang, CEO, South East Asia, DHL Global Forwarding South Asia Pacific.

Under the deal DHL will operate the event's central warehouse, and will leverage its expertise in clinical trial logistics for anti-doping tests during the games. . "Urine samples will be delivered from Singapore to the World Anti-Doping Agency-accredited laboratory within 24 hours upon pickup from various venues.  The urine samples will be packed in a special packaging and we have a team on standby for pickup and shipment handling to ensure we deliver within the required time frame," said Herbert Vongpusanachai, country manager, DHL Express Singapore.
