Australia - Qantas Airways will save US$811.3 million in capital expenditure in the next financial year on aircraft delivery delays, said CEO Alan Joyce.

Joyce was speaking at the International Air Transport Association AGM in KL, during which he said the airline was focused on saving cash in the short term and strengthening its balance sheet to take advantage of long term potential growth.

He said the airline had saved A$1 billion (US$811.3 million) in capital expenditure from deferring aircraft. It deferred four A380s for 12 months earlier this year. It also deferred 12 Boeing 737 aircraft by 14 months and is negotiating with Boeing to delay delivery of its new 787 Dreamliners.

"It's important because there's a lot of uncertainty," Joyce said. He added that there were no plans to cut capacity or jobs, but did not rule out future reductions.
